Above : Slideshow to show Creation of Restoration Hardware Catalog Spread. Transitioning from empty set to final retouched image.
Set Design + Production Department will build the Full Set with furniture and Photo will take pictures/different exposures while slowly emptying the set. So for my this page I will explain the process from an empty set to Final Print/Website.
2. Added : MUSTIQUE TEAK COFFEE TABLE with Decoration Accessories. Tables are usually shot empty so in future updates any table decoration can be added later. Lucky for me, as there was no request to change anything out in this spread. Because, this particular shoot did not have any empty table exposures.
3. Added : 92" MUSTIQUE TEAK SOFA
4. Added : MUSTIQUE TEAK LOUNGE CHAIRS, Full set complete and approved by Product Dev Teams. Either Photo Studio and/or Catalog Retouchers will clean up set next.
5. Pillow Placement request by Textile Department. Also used as Reference for future Pillow Placement. Slight clean-up & extension of floor.
6. Final Crop Area approved by Product Development. Clean up and Color Correction will be focused in this area. Web Production will sometimes modify size due to graphics, text and web requirements. Ready for Retouching.
7. Major Retouching is started. A Photoshop Work in Progress File is created. Original File, Background, Shadows, Exposures, Pixel Work, Sharpening, Color Correction, Reference folders are built and layered in a way that any Retoucher can take over and complete work.
Floor, Wood, Fabric and Background is cleaned up. Any and All Retouching techniques are used. Construction lines and/or Cropped Area Layer are referenced. Files are sent to Epson Printers that are color spec. daily for precise screen to print color matching then reviewed with Art Directors.
8. Textiles/Product Development notified Catalog Department to use the DAYO KOFI LUMBAR PILLOW COVERS BY KERRY JOYCE. The Photo Department was also notified and shot the Pillows and provided various shot/exposures.
After selecting the correct exposure. The pillows are sent out for Outlines. This is usually a 1 day turn around with Product Outlines, Solids and stripes all returned pathed.
For quick placement and to not interfere with set Color Correction Furniture Mask, Pillows/Accessories are placed on Top of Color Correction hierarchy. The Pillows are color corrected to Physical Samples provided by the Materials/Samples team. Light boxes on desk are used to match on screen and also Light Room + Sample + Print is reviewed on wall with Art Directors and Product Development.
9. An approved Teak Wood Reference that was approved by the Director and passed to all Catalog Retouching Team so ALL Teak Wood Catalog spreads will be color aligned. This is printed over again and reviewed on Light wall with Director Approved Teak furniture spread.
10. Final Approved Catalog Spread.
11. Director wanted All New Backgrounds added to all spreads for this year to differentiate from previous years Outdoor Catalog.
12. Final Approve image with Final Crop. The full image is uploaded into InDesign and Web Production will add Graphics/Text. Sometimes, Web Production will request to have some areas either lightened/darkened to help make the type readable.
13. Final Web Production Crop with image flipped.
Text applied and All Catalog is sent to Final Production while the same files are also made ready for Online Web Resource.
